Resume

My name is Sizzly M. Acevedo. My journey to this profession
started after I had my son because during my pregnancy I had no
one to help or educate me. The class that I got at the hospital had over 50 couples and it was a one day class and it explained about the policy and procedures of the hospital and the rules but nothing about how to do it naturally.  They talked about all the drugs that can make you comfortable and that labor hurts don’t try to be brave.  So as a teenager pregnant at 18 yrs old I just did what the nurses wanted me to do and the doctor which lead me to an unnecessary c-section. So I felt robbed of my birth and no one was explaining anything the only thing I did get to do only one thing and it was my choice was to breastfeed my son.  So
once I was able to recover from my surgery.  I went back to school
to become a nurse and I told myself that I was going to be better
then anyone of those nurses that helped me.

Once I finished my prerequisites I applied for nursing and I had to
write an entrance essay to the program.  My essay moved the
emotions of the director of nursing and decided to give it to the
director of the midwifery program. The director called me and I got
accepted and started my journey.  I became certified as a holistic
childbirth educator, doula, and breastfeeding specialist. Then I
started my observation and assisting at births as a midwife
assistant and senior student midwife. I managed my own births
and had my own doula clients as well as midwifery clients but as a
senior student midwife. I have delivered up to 600 babies.  So I
decided to pursue my monitrice certification which is a test but I
had all the training already from the midwifery program.  So I am a
certified monitrice but it is not legal in the state of Florida, which
is a doula that can do vital signs, and vaginal checks at a home
setting.  As an educator I started working while I was a student
midwife at Heart to Heart Midwifery Care, LLC. Birth center, and
taught there then got hired at Healthy Start Coalition of Miami
Dade where I became a certified parenting educator through
learning games and a certified lactation counselor.  So now I am waiting to save to get my license as a licensed midwife, certified professional
midwife.  I am a midwife assistant as well for Anne Hirsch Hearth
and Home Midwifery and Jill Adams Naturally Nurturing Midwifery Service. I also received a birth assistant certification with Breath of life. I am CPR certified as well as NRP certified.  I am certified doula thru Miami Dade College I was taught thru the DONA organization but didn't
get the organization certification because it was thru my college,
as well as Certified Childbirth Educator, but I wanted to be part of the
DONA international organization.  I have a lot of passion for my
career and love to teach for all the mommies I can come in
contact. I have all my certification to show if need confirmation.

She taught me everything by making sure I had alot of hands on experience. She trusted me like a best friend, sister, and partner of the practice. Shortly I was help her with the practice in business aspects and she was making sure I learned the inns and outs of the midwifery practice and she taught me everything I needed to know about the midwife business and insurance industry.

Miriam is a mother of 2 girls one is Chandelle Maldonado and she had her in the hospital and her experience made her want to become a midwife once her daughter was pregnant she had the honor to deliver her granddaughter in her own home. Then in 2007 she had the surprise of being pregnant herself and had fulfilled her dream on having her own homebirth. Then last year 2009 Chandelle had another baby delivered by her mother Miriam in her own home. She is a big advocate of VBACs and breastfeeding. I was born in Miami, Florida and moved to St. Petersburg at the age of 10.  I was raised by my wonderful parents, Don and Betsy Adams, who still reside in St. Petersburg in the same house I was raised.  I have one brother, Donald Adams who lives in Savannah, GA and one sister, Donna Streetman who lives in St. Petersburg.  I graduated from St. Pete High School and married soon out of high school and spent my life working and raising my 4 wonderful children,  Steven, Lucas, Hailey and Owen.  They are all parents themselves now, which makes me an ever-so-proud grandmother of six unbelievely fantastic grandkids. ( Grammahood Rocks!) I have to mention their names.  Alexandria, Mason, Lucas, Kira, Mina and Owen.  I'm sharing this information because I want to relay that family is very important to me and makes up part of who I am, and how blessed I am.  After my children finished school,  it was my turn and I began to start fullfilling a dream of mine.    I graduated from the Florida School of Traditional Midwifery in Gainesville Florida.  I practiced in several different Birthing Centers and with some great Midwives before deciding that a homebirth practice was right for me.
