Philosophy of Childbirth Options, LLC.
The main purpose for childbirth options is to prepare expectant couples for their child's birth. I want to educate them in a natural way of having this baby in this world. There are certain circumstances that can alter that; in that case, I will educate them to prepare themselves for those circumstances, to prepare them for unexpected occurrences during the labor.
My role as a childbirth educator, doula, monitrice, and a midwife assistant is to make sure the mother has a good birth experience. I want to show them a holistic way to have the baby, using the drugs as a last resort and to show them that the labor will go well if you listen to your body and avoid inducing and intervening labor normal process.
I expect my clients to be enthusiastic for the knowledge about pregnancy and the development of their baby. I would like a parent to ask me questions if they are concerned about situations that might occur. I want mothers to learn all the birth options they have available to them. I will teach them that labor is hard, but that most of the time nature will take its course, and there are natural methods to handle pain. I want mothers to have the best experience possible.
I believe in the natural ways of birth, and surgery should be used only when the safety of the mother or baby warrants it. I want to teach ways that involve medicines only if necessary. I want the mothers to be knowledgeable about fetal development the stages of labor, and the advantages of normal birth and risks of cesarean, so they can make informed choices about their own births.
These are some topics I educate on:
- Childbirth is a profound rite of passage, not a medical event (even when medical care is part of the birth)
- The essence of childbirth preparation is self-discovery, not assimilating obstetric information
- The teacher is midwife to the parent's discovery process, not the expert from whom wisdom flows
- Childbirth preparation is a continually evolving process ( for parents and teachers), not a static structure of techniques and knowledge
- Parents' individual needs and differences determine class content
- Active, creative self- expression is critical to childbirth preparation
- The purpose of childbirth preparation is to prepare mothers to give birth-in-awareness, not to achieve a specific birth outcome. Pregnancy and birth outcome are influence by a variety of factors, but cant be controlled by planningIn order to help parents mobilize their coping resources, it is critical for childbirth classes to acknowledge that unexpected, unwelcome events may happen during laborParents deserve support for any birth options which might be right for them (whether it be drugs, technology, home birth, or bottle feeding)
- Pain is an inevitable part of childbirth, yet much can be done to ease suffering
- Pain coping techniques work best when integrated into daily life, rather than dusted off for labor
- Fathers help best as birth guardians or loving partners, not as coaches, they also need support
- For parents, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum is a time of continuous learning and adjustment; holistic support and education should be available throughout that period
- Childbirth preparation is also parent preparation
- Remember every pregnancy to every delivery is different and I want you to know that I will guide with the help of your providers information.
